Samuel Umtiti and Todibo could benefit from De Ligt decision

Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo could be the main beneficiaries if Matthijs de Ligt ends up going to Juventus as now seems probable.

Jeison Murillo and Thomas Vermaelen have left after their loan and contract finished respectively.

The two starters last season were Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet and now Umtiti and Todibo are the only other centre-backs in the squad.

Umtiti lost his place in the team because of his knee problem but wants to stay and try to get it back, even though the club think that he would be a good player to sell to raise money.

Todibo, meanwhile, has not played under Valverde hardly and at 19 is obviously still developing.

The idea is that he does the pre-season with Barca and after that his future will be defined.

Barca have signed Neto and Frenkie de Jong and are working on a left-back to give Alba competition.

Along with either Filipe Luis or Guerreiro for that role, they want Neymar and Antoine Griezmann in attack.

That expenditure may end up with Barca giving Umtiti and Todibo the vote of confidence and not signing another player instead of De Ligt.

REFUERZOS PENDIENTES

El Barça ha cerrado los fichajes de Neto (portería) y Frenkie De Jong (centro del campo) y trabaja para contratar un relevo de garantías a Jordi Alba en el lateral izquierdo. En este caso, se habla de opciones más costosas y a largo plazo (Guerreiro) o de corto plazo como la del veterano Filipe Luis (ex Atlético), que llegaría con la carta de libertad.

La apuesta por dos fichajes de peso, como son los de Antoine Griezmann y Neymar Junior, condiciona el resto de los movimientos del Barça en este mercado de verano. El esfuerzo económico que exigirá reclutar al francés y al brasileño, así como las posibles salidas (¿Coutinho, Dembélé?) que condicionarían alguna de esas operaciones, pueden llevar a que el club apueste por dar un voto de confianza a Umtiti y Todibo.
