'Proud to be part of this club': Pique backs Barça on jailed politicians

El Barça ha emitido un comunicado tras la sentencia por el juicio del procés / | sport

The defender posted a clear and concise tweet following Monday's sentencing

Gerard Pique, the Barcelona centre-back and one of the club's captains, has made his first comment on the Supreme Court's decision to hand sentences ranging from nine to 13 years to nine Catalan separatists.

Pique, who broke down in tears when talking about the events which surrounded the referendum in October of 2017, has always defended the right to decide and has quickly responded on social media after the sentences were confirmed on Monday.

It was a clear and concise message from Pique, who wanted to take advantage of the statement made by Barcelona, who were the first club to react, to show his opinion on the issue and express his support.

Pique quoted the tweet posted by Barça with a short message in English: "Proud to be part of this club."

Remember that Pique, who has never declared himself in favour or against independence, has always shown his solidarity with the prisoners and the events which surrounded the referendum, which he voted in.
