Piqué talks about Leo Messi's future and a possible return to Barcelona

In an interview with RAC1, Gerard Piqué discussed, among other issues, Leo Messi's future ahead of next season, as his contract with PSG expires in just three months' time. The former Barça centre-back, a team-mate of Messi's for many years, believes that "only he knows his future," although he believes that the Argentinian will decide "depending on his motivation" and "where he will be happiest."

"Only he knows his future," Pique said. "I think that winning the World Cup was the dream he had on a personal level. It was the title he was missing to be considered the best ever. Now everyone is convinced of that. Now everything he decides is to look for where he can be happy. The most normal thing would be that he stays in Europe."

Barcelona is one of the destinations that are on the table and the former defender sees options that could happen: "Barça could be there. For the fans, for him to return on a sentimental level would be amazing. But it's his decision. No matter how much people say, there are only his feelings, his motivation..."

So, everything will depend solely and exclusively on what Messi wants to do in the coming months. The Barça card is there, but there are also other possibilities. Staying at PSG or looking for a new adventure in MLS in the United States are the other likely options.
