Official statement: Barca call for Tebas's resignation

The club hit out at the La Liga chief on Monday and said he should step down

FC Barcelona has publicly requested in an official statement that Javier Tebas resign as president of La Liga.

"The news published today by 'La Vanguardia' is of a seriousness that should alert all La Liga clubs, due to practices that do not fit in with the functions attributed to the president of La Liga. For this fact alone, that of attributing to himself functions that do not correspond to him, although also out of dignity and respect for the presidency of LaLiga, Mr. Tebas should resign from his position," demanded the club.

The statement from Barca comes just a few hours after 'La Vanguardia' said Javier Tebas had sent false evidence to the Public Prosecutor's Office directly implicating former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell in the alleged crimes of unfair administration and misappropriation. In the letter, Barça expresses "its deep anger, indignation and disgust".

As well as condemning what the 'La Vanguardia' report claimed, Barça have called for the president of La Liga to "appear publicly to offer explanations, beyond the tweet sent in the early hours of the morning by Mr Tebas, fleeing from study and with a threatening patina".

At the same time, the Catalan giants have once again condemned being the victim "of a media lynching for events that have never happened: Barça have never bought referees".

"It is not the first time that the president of LaLiga has used all his media machinery to dynamite FC Barcelona but, apart from his usual nonsense, we could never have imagined that he would have tried to incriminate our Club with false evidence," the harsh statement from Barça finally states, who have decided to go on the attack after the serious accusations made against them in recent weeks.
