Official: Eric Abidal leaves Barcelona
The club agreed a deal with him to end his contract with Ramon Planes in charge now
Barcelona and Eric Abidal have reached a deal for his contract to be rescinded, the Catalans said in a statement.
The Blaugrana thanked him for his professionalism, commitment and dedication at the club, with sources at Barca saying that he wanted to leave.
Abidal leaves the club after sacking Quique Setien on Monday, after a decision by the board.
Ronald Koeman will take over as manager, while Ramon Planes will be in charge of shaping the new squad as sporting director.
Barca are preparing big changes. Miralem Pjanic has already signed on and Neymar Junior is another target.
Abidal was in charge for two years after replacing Robert Fernandez in the summer of 2018. He could not reach a deal with PSG for Neymar and did not manage to get big names to leave to start the renovation of the club.
