The match will happen on the 19th September at the Camp Nou behind closed doors
FC Barcelona will be facing newly-promoted Elche in the 55th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy. The venue will be the Camp Nou next Saturday 19 September. It will kick off at 7.00pm (local time) after Barça began the preseason by beating Gimnàstic Tarragona 3-1 on Saturday 12.
It’s the first time that a fellow LaLiga team has appeared at the traditional curtain-raiser to Barça’s new season since Tenerife in 1993 and Valencia in 1994, although with no fans allowed into the stadium because of Covid-19 restrictions, this year’s Gamper is going to be unlike any other before.
Like Barça, Elche’s first two games of the league season have been postponed until December.
Elche cancelled their planned preseason match against Atlético Baleares, scheduled for the same day, so they are available to face Barça. In previous matches between Elche and Barça during preseason, it saw the debuts of Ronald Koeman and Ronaldinho.
