The numbers behind Ilkay Gundogan's move to Barca

Ilkay Gündogan is now a new FC Barcelona player. The German midfielder had proposals from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, but he has finally decided on the Azulgrana option to continue his career. He arrives after having had probably his best season at Manchester City, achieving a historic treble.

Gündogan will have a termination clause of 400 million euros and will sign for Barça until 30 June 2025, with the option to extend his contract for one more season, and will receive around 10 million euros net for each of the signed seasons. He will be in a privileged position on the Barça salary scale, although he is far from the wage received by Robert Lewandowski.

Barça have thus signed a total midfielder, capable of starting at the base of the play and of positioning himself very close to the centre-forward. Under Guardiola, he has increased his presence in the opposition box and this season he has scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in a Manchester City shirt.

Gündogan is coming off the back of a hat-trick of trophies with the 'Citizens' and decided his time as a Mancunian was over after seven seasons at the Etihad Stadium. The German, in fact, was the captain of the team. Now he will wear the Blaugrana shirt, where he also wants to mark an era.
