Messi has never scored against Champions League rival Chelsea
The Argentine has played eight games against the Londoners
The balance is one win, five draws and two defeats
Leo Messi doesn't know what it feels like to score against Chelsea. The Argentine has faced the London club eight times, but without netting a goal and with a balance of one win, five draws and two losses.
Of those eight games, Petr Cech was in goal on six occasions (and Hilario the other two). It's bad run which began over 10 years ago on Feb. 22, with Cech defending the Chelsea goal at Stamford Bridge.
Messi did eventually end his bad run against Cech, scoring twice in Barca's win over Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League in 2016, but he has still not ended his Chelsea duck.
Messi's games against Chelsea:
Semifinal - first leg 18/04/12 Chelsea - Barça 1:0 (90') vs Cech
Semifinal - second leg 24/04/12 Barça - Chelsea 2:2 (90') vs Cech
Semifinal - first leg 28/04/09 Barça - Chelsea 0:0 (90') vs Cech
Semifinal - second leg 06/05/09 Chelsea Barça 1:1 (90') vs Cech
Group A 18/10/06 Chelsea Barça 1:0 (90') vs Hilario
Group A 31/10/06 Barça - Chelsea 2:2 (90') vs Hilario
Last 16 - first leg 22/02/06 Chelsea - Barça 1:2 (90') vs Cech
Last 16 - second leg 07/03/06 Barça - Chelsea 1:1 (25') vs Cech
Despite never having scored against them, Messi has had some memorable games against Chelsea, such as the one on Feb. 22, 2006. On that day, a young Leo played a brilliant game against left-back Asier del Horno.
The English side were aggressive but the Argentine came close to scoring, hitting the woodwork. The woodwork has been a theme of these encounters, with Messi hitting the bar from a penalty in the last meeting between the sides at Camp Nou.
Messi will try again against a Chelsea side no longer managed by Mourinho. But they are still good in defence and play on the counter-attack, now under Conte.
