The forward returned to work on Monday after failing to get a move away from Camp Nou

Lionel Messi is back. The Barcelona captain has left the controversy surrounding his future behind him and has returned to training with the Catalan club.

Messi has not yet taken part in Barça's preseason under Ronald Koeman but arrived at the training ground on Monday to begin preparations for the 2020-21 campaign.

In fact, the forward and club captain was the first to arrive at the training ground, driving in at 4pm CET, 90 minutes ahead of the scheduled start time.

Before returning to the training ground, Messi had to undergo a PCR test and while the result was negative, the strict La Liga protocol on coronavirus states he must train alone this week.

But Messi is back. After telling the club he was off, he backed down to avoid a legal battle, although he revealed to Goal.com that he is not happy at Camp Nou.

The Argentina star has a contract until 2021 and, if he doesn't sign a new deal, will be free to negotiate with other clubs from Jan. 1.
