Despite agreeing a deal to sign Bruno Fernandes, they want to bring in another midfielder before the transfer window closes

Manchester United have asked FC Barcelona whether Ivan Rakitic is available for transfer this month according to ESPN.

Barça are looking to raise funds as they search for a striker to replace Luis Suarez. Philippe Coutinho, currently on loan at Bayern Munich, is one name on the 'transferables' list. Alongside him you'll find the Croatian midfielder, Rakitic, who has featured less this season than in previous campaigns.

United are without injured pair Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay which further exposes the weakness of their midfield. The problem for the English side is that Rakitic is against uprooting his family from Spain.

The Croatian, 31, is under contract until 2021 but Barça would sell him for around €20m. United should complete the signing of Sporting Clube de Portugal's Bruno Fernandes today before moving onto other targets.
