The Blaugrana say the defender is not transferrable and want to keep him

Man City asked Barcelona about Nelson Semedo a few days ago, but the Catalans simply referred Pep Guardiola’s side to the defender’s release clause.

His agent Jorge Mendes told Barcelona of the interest from the English club after their negotiations for Joao Cancelo broke down. Barcelona believe in Semedo and do not want to sell him.

The other offer they received for the Portuguese defender this summer, from Atletico Madrid, was also rejected by the Blaugrana.

Barca are planning to offer Semedo a new deal this summer. His contract ends in 2022 and now would be a good time to extend that.

Valverde will play Sergi Roberto in midfield this season and use Wague as a back-up for Semedo.

If Wague does’ work out then they have Emerson on loan at Betis for that role in the future. If he does well this season he may be called back by Barcelona next summer.
