Luis Enrique is obliged to repeat the sprint to the end of the season
Barça had to win their final five games last year to win the title
The year before they won 19 of 21 points to end the campaign
Luis Enrique's Barceloma must produce a flawless sprint to the end of the season if they want to win the league title. Barça, under the guidance of the Asturian, managed to end the last two seasons in good form, winning the title.
The challenge now is more difficult because they must cut the gap which Real Madrid have build -- and Zinedine Zidane's side even have a game in hand in Vigo -- but the mathmatics and the precedents provoke hope for the Catalans.
Barça have seven games left in the league -- 21 points to play for. If they win them all, they will end the season with 90 points, the worst total in the last three seasons. But it may be enough to win the league. To do so, they must win at the Bernabeu and hope Madrid slip up in another game before the season is out.
SEASON 2015-16
Last season Barça had a big advantage at this stage, but one point from 12 between weeks 30 and 33 obliged them to win their final five games. And they did so convincingly: Deportivo (0-8), Sporting (6-0), Betis (0-2), Espanyol (5-0) and Granada (0-3). They ended the season with 15 points from 21 having perviously lost to Real Sociedad (1-0) and Valencia (1-2). Barça ended the campaign with 91 points and won the title.
SEASON 2014-15
Luis Enrique's FC Barcelona also finished the season well when they won the treble. Of the last 21 points, they picked up 19, only dropping points against Deportivo in the final game of thr season (2-2) when they were already champions. They beat Valencia (2-0), Espanyol (0-2), Getafe (6-0), Córdoba (0-8), Real Sociedad (2-0) and Atlético (0-1), winning the title at the Vicente Calderon. They ended the season with 94 points, the most under Luis Enrique.
