The Argentine star is expected to sign his new deal imminently

He has been in Asutralia playing against Brazil with his national team

Lionel Messi landed in Barcelona on Saturday night after playing for Argentina against Brazil in Australia on Friday, the first game of the Jorge Sampaoli era.

The Barça star will not play the Albiceleste's second game of the summer against Singapore. He did make a stop in Singapore, though, on the way back to Europe (along with Otamendi and Higuain) before heading back to Catalonia where his partner Antonella Roccuzzo, sons Thiago and Mateo are waiting.

His father, Jorge Messi, is also in Barcelona, where he has been for the last few days to finalise the Argentine international's new contract with the Blaugrana.

Barcelona could make Messi's new contract official next month, with a new deal agreed until 2021 with an additional year optional. Without doubt, Messi's renewal will be one of the biggest pieces of news this summer.

Remember that Messi is getting married in Rosario to Antonella on June 30 and just a week before then, on June 24, he will turn 30.

On July 12 he will then be due back in Barcelona for pre-season, the first time in a while he's been able to begin from day one due to the lack of a major international tournament this summer.

And he will begin the season newly married, 30 and with a new contract.
