Barcelona's only consolation domestically this season was Messi heading towards his seventh Pichichi award, which would see him overtake the legendary Telmo Zarra, who managed six.

Messi faces Alaves first and if he scores it will make it hard for Benzema to overtake him. He scored a free-kick against Osasuna on Thursday to score his first goal in July.
