The former Barcelona sporting director could be questioned as part of the investigation

Former Barcelona player Eric Abidal has been implicated in the attack on the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Kheira Hamraoui, according to Le Monde.

A report in the French newspaper has suggested the assault on Hamraoui, which left the former Barça player with injured arms and legs, was a revenge attack.

The investigation has found a chip on Hamraoui's telephone which is registered to Abidal, who reportedly had a relationship with her between 2018 and 2020, when they were both at Barça.

Supposedly, the men that attacked her recriminated her for sleeping with married men.

The prosecutor in the case has subsequently confirmed that Abidal will be questioned “soon”, while his wife Hayet Abidal could also face questioning.

Abidal's lawyer had told RMC: "If Eric Abidal is to be questioned at the request of the Versailles public prosecutor, he will go explain himself without a problem. However, Mr. Abidal still does not understand how he could be linked directly or indirectly to this assault."

Hamraoui's teammate Aminata Diallo was originally detained on the premise that she had ordered the attack as the two players were in competition for a place in the team. After 36 hours in police custody, that has now almost been ruled out and the investigation is chasing other leads.
