The Catalan derby on Saturday was the scene of some ugly chants

There were once again nasty chants aimed at Gerard Pique during the Catalan derby at Cornella. Including the homophobic and racist one about Shakira and Wakaso. The player told that to referee Carlos del Cerro but he did not put it in his report about the game.

However La Liga, SPORT have learned will charge Espanyol over the chants, which could result in a punishment for the Cornella club.

This is not the first time this has happened. Two years ago there was also a similar situation in the quarter-final Copa del Rey clash, where Piqué heard practically identical songs. Then there was a complaint from La Liga sent to the Competition and the Anti-Violence Commission. In 2016, Espanyol were fined 24,000 euros for similar songs against the singer, Pique’s partner, and even a banner appeared which read: "Shakira belongs to everyone.”
