Junior Firpo pays for the broken plates of the transfer window
The Barcelona left back did not get a move and is not in the squad against Granada
Junior Firpo had an uncertain January with a disappointing end. Barcelona did not reach a deal with clubs who were interested in him and he’s become one of the least needed players in the squad.
The board negotiated with Inter Milan, but the deal broke down because of their offer. They wanted a loan but would not agree a 25 million euro commitment to buy. Milan wanted an optional one. That’s something that Barcelona did not accept, given what happened with Rafinha in the past.
In the Premier League the market crisis stopped any big moves happening. The upside is that Ronald Koeman has one more resource for the second half of the season.
However Koeman did not call up Firpo for the game with Granada in the Copa del Rey, with Sergi Roberto and Sergino Dest included, both of whom could be used at left-back.
It also doesn’t help that only nine subs can be named compared to 12 in La Liga. If it was the latter Firpo would likely have gone. The coach preferred to call up Arnau Tenas, a third goalkeeper, ahead of Firpo.
