"In all my years at Barça, he was the only signing the players asked for"

Jordi Mestre confirmed in an interview with 'Tot Costa' on 'Catalunya Ràdio' that the Barcelona players asked for Neymar to come back to the club.

It was an open secret at the time and Gerard Pique has even revealed that some players were prepared to defer payments to help push the deal through. But no one behind the scenes at the club or on the board had previously admitted it.

The former vice president has now confirmed that the players did ask for Neymar's signing, although he added they don't usually interfere in squad planning.

"in the time that I was at Barça, there was only one case in which the players asked for a signing: Neymar," Mestre said.

Mestre also confirmed that his exit from the club in the summer was related to the club's loss of confidence in general manager Pep Segura, as reported by SPORT at the time.

"I left because I thought different to the football commission at the club at that moment," he added. "I was alone in my support of Pep Segura."
