Joao Cancelo rules out England, Barca gaining ground
The Portuguese defender is of interest to the Catalans
Joao Cancelo has reportedly decided not to return to the Premier League, according to German newspaper 'Abendzeitung'. The Portuguese full-back believes that his time in England is over after his years at Manchester City and does not want to return to Pep Guardiola's team, nor does he want to negotiate a move to Arsenal, the club that has been asking about him in recent weeks. His destination could be in Spain, La Liga -- he is moving closer and closer to Barça.
Cancelo has been on loan at Bayern Munich for six months and the German club have an option to buy him for 70 million euros which they do not intend to activate. Another option would be to get a new loan, but for now the chances are low, because Bayern are already looking at other players. Cancelo is finishing his time in the Bundesliga and has already said goodbye to his teammates.
Barça have Cancelo on their wishlist, but they can only take him on loan and only if the player agrees to reduce his salary to be within the salary limits they have. He is a player who suits the coaching staff and the club are convinced that he will be useful.
Another exit route for Cancelo could be to PSG if Hakimi leaves.
