Barça and Ajax confirmed a deal was in place for the midfielder on the 23rd January 2019

Frenkie de Jong's arrival at FC Barcelona was one which excited the entire fan base. The midfielder was seen as the perfect signing to continue the style of football that has been made famous at the club. No one had any doubts. Josep Maria Bartomeu and Oscar Grau moved quickly to wrap up a €75m deal. The transfer was announced on the 23rd January 2019, exactly one year ago, and de Jong was to become the base of Barça's midfield for the next ten years.

In Holland, he signed a contract until 2023/24 but would finish the current campaign with Ajax. His presentation at the Camp Nou took place on the 5th July. After a fantastic season under Tan Hag, Frenkie was named the Eredivisie's Player of the Season and Best Young Dutch Player. However, the jump in quality from that league to LaLiga is huge. Would he be able to adapt? Clearly the answer is a resounding yes.

AN 'UNTOUCHABLE' MEMBER OF BARÇA'S XI

Wearing the number '21' shirt, the midfielder has been a constant in Barça's lineups. He's played 27 matches in total, scored one goal and provided three assists. He is being used in a different role to the one he had at Ajax but that hasn't stopped him being as influential. Of the players to have made over 1,000 passes in Europe's top five leagues, he has the highest passing accuracy with 93% (equal with Toni Kroos). He's a player for the present as well as the future.

Who knows what level he'll reach in another 12 months' time?
