Malcom looked to have won the game in the final 10 minutes. The Brazilian, on as a substitute, gave Barca a deserved lead after being set up by Philipe Coutinho.

However, there was a late twist as Mauro Icardi, who played for Barca as a youngster, scored from close range in the 87th minute to earn Inter a point.

It's a point which sends Barça into the next round -- although they have work to do to clinch top spot -- while Inter will battle it out with Tottenham to join them there.

Ernesto Valverde decided not to rush Lionel Messi back from a broken bone in his arm and left him in the stands, bringing Ousmane Dembele into the side in the place of Rafinha.

The Barça coach will be happy with what he saw. Dembele went close early on and Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho also had good chances in the first half.

Inter's only chance fell to Kwadwo Asamoah but in general they didn't trouble the Catalans.

It was a similar story after the break. Coutinho, who ended the game with seven shots, came close several times and Ivan Rakitic missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring.

Inter briefly pressed and rallied -- Matteo Politano came close with a header -- but it was Barca having the better chances. Dembele forced a good save from Samir Handanovic.

Dembele was then taken off for Malcom, who had an immediate impact. His appearance have been limited since he joined in the summer but he seized his chance at the San Siro, driving home after good work from Coutinho.

It looked like Barça would see the win out from there until Icardi struck after an uncharacteristic error from Sergio Busquets.
