Here is why Nelson Semedo is now 'untouchable' at Barça

Many people were surprised to see the full back's name on the list of non-transferable players but his progression hasn't gone unnoticed

We recently tried to explain why Ousmane Dembele was on the list of non-transferable players that Josep Maria Baortmeu named the other day. Nelson Semedo's appearance on it was just as surprising as that of the French winger. Dembele, de Jong, Griezmann, Messi, ter Stegen, Lenglet and Semedo were the only ones mentioned by name who wouldn't be sold this summer.

Semedo made 42 appearances for Barça this season and produced his best performances since joining the club. First under Valverde and later with Quique Setien, the Portuguese full-back established himself as first choice. Sergi Roberto was finally moved back into midfield and this left the entire right-hand side of the defence to Semedo. He scored one goal and provided six assists.

STILL ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

At the age of just 26, there's still room for improvement when it comes to Semedo. What's curious is his name has been mentioned as a makeweight in all kinds of deals including ones for Manchester City pair Joao Cancelo and Eric Garcia. However, Barça have made it clear to City - and anyone else - that they won't be letting Semedo go this summer.

The feeling at the club is Semedo had a good campaign and has improved a lot in the final third, even if he was outclassed by Bayern's Alphonso Davies in the Champions League. Looking back on the season, Semedo is one of the few bright points to come out of it. Whilst he's still a long way away from the level we saw Dani Alves reach he's got a lot of potential and is starting to develop into a very impressive right-back. He isn't for sale.
