Pep is hopeful that the young defender will sign a new contract with Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has broken his silence on the future of Eric Garcia. In his most recent press conference, Pep was asked about the young centre back's future, especially now that Barça are interested in his signature.

"Eric has another year on his contract. If Barça want him, they need to call (us). But we are going to try and convince him (to stay) because we want him here for many years," Guardiola said.

According to SPORT sources, Barça have informed City of their interest in the defender. Guardiola, once again, put his faith in Eric. "We want him to stay. But if he decides he doesn't want to, there isn't anything we can do. The player, his agent and his family all know that we believe in him."

Eric Garcia is under contract with Manchester City until 2021 and the English club have spent months trying to tie him down to a longer deal. However the growing interest from Barça has seen those talks stall. Since the Premier League's restart, Pep has attempted to show the faith he has in Eric. The defender has started three matches for the former champions, including against Arsenal and Liverpool.
