Antoine Griezmann has spoken about his future again... but still gave nothing away

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has still not made an announcement about his future. While his current club and Barcelona wait on his decision, he maintains his silence on the matter. There have beeen very few clues despite the fact he's said he will give a definitive answer before the World Cup.

Griezmann, therefore, only has a few days left. For the moment, however, he is at least giving interviews. The latest has been with SPox due to a new campaign with Gillette. The journalist asked him about his future but the answer about where he will play after the World Cup didn't clear much up.

"I am thinking about my future, but I still haven't made a decision," Griezmann said, before admitting that "being champions of Spain, of course, is very difficult, because Barcelona and [Real] Madrid have been at a really high level for many years. And they also have a budget much bigger than ours. But we will try every year and we hope that eventually it works."

Griezmann recognised that winning the Europa League was a success: "I'd not won a big title. I was close with my club and with the national team, but I lost the Champions League final in 2016 and then the European Championships final in the same year. That's why the final in Lyon was a huge opportunity for me and for the team. Fortunately, we took advantage of it."

However, the Champions League is the real challenge: "The Champions League is an obsession for me and for the club, too. It's been the big objective since the start of my career. I really want to win that cup. [Atletico] weren't knocked out this year because we played poorly against big sides like Chelsea and Roma, but because we drew twice against Qarabag. That should not happen to us."

Griezmann also looked back on the 2016 final loss to Real Madrid: "It was extremely tough because I think that we would have won if I had scored the penalty. But I hit the bar. I then wanted to be first in the shootout and [despite scoring] the earlier miss didn't leave my mind for weeks. It was complicated. You try not to think about it so much and forget it. It works during the day when there are distractions but when you go to bed at night it comes back and the images are there again.

"But I would do the same [take the penalty] in another final. You have to be strong in the mind, you have to be ready in the tough moments and you shouldn't forget in the good times that things can be bad, so don't be arrogant."

Griezmann spoke about Spanish football, too: "I've achieved in Spain what I set out for: to play for a big club in the big competitions. I've also reached the national team in my way. So I did everything well. In France, in the academies, you have to be a certain height. If you're not, you're out. In Spain, they pay more attention to talent, technique and tactics. Of course, that went well for me and I was able to fulfil my dream of being a professional footballer."
