A double blow for the midfielder after he missed out on Brazil's World Cup squad

Bad news for Arthur Melo. On the same day that Brazil coach Tite left him out of his 23 man squad for this summer's World Cup, Gremio's medical team confirmed he will be out for three weeks with a muscle injury.

Arthur was taken off five minutes before the end of Saturday's derby between Gremio and Internacional (0-0), the fifth game of the Brazilian season. The midfielder, who Barça will sign in July for January, was experiencing muscle pain.

Tests have since revealed that he has a hamstring strain and will be out for two weeks, so will miss two Copa Libertadores games, against Monagas and Defensor, and four league fixtures, against Paraná, Ceará, Fluminense and Bahía.

If he returns on schedule, Arthur could feature in three games before the Brazilian league takes a break for the World Cup.

So far in 2018, Arthur has played 18 games for Gremio in domestic and international competitions and has scored four goals, his best return since he became professional in 2015.
