Girona make move for Barcelona defender Eric Garcia
The final days of the summer 2023 transfer window promise to be frantic in FC Barcelona's offices. There are several players on the verge of leaving, and also some on the verge of entering, as confirmed by president Joan Laporta just minutes before the match against Villarreal at La Cerámica stadium.
One of the players who could potentially leave the Blaugrana ranks is Eric Garcia. Girona is set to push for the defender in the coming hours, and the player is aware of the interest and doesn't rule out a departure.
However, the Barcelona technical department won't allow for a double exit in the defense: both Eric and Marcos Alonso, for whom Manchester United has requested a loan.
Girona understands that with Eric's addition, Michel's team would gain a versatile player who can play in central defense as well as in the midfield area. He has also occasionally been deployed as a full-back.
In addition to the possibility of acquiring Eric's services, the Montilivi team is also considering other market options. In this regard, Peruvian midfielder Renato Tapia from Celta Vigo is reportedly on their radar.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is awaiting Girona's moves, but the coaching staff led by Xavi prefers to have Eric in the squad. The club would prefer that, if he were to leave, it would be through a transfer deal to help with financial fair play regulations.
