Ferran Jutgla: I could have been a good back up for Lewandowski

Ferran Jutglà has given an extensive interview on the programme 'El Suplement' on 'Catalunya Ràdio', where he reviewed his time at Barcelona, as well as aspects of his life off the pitch.

Despite stressing that in Belgium "everything has gone smoothly", he admitted that he sometimes feels homesick for his homeland and that he could even imagine himself in the current Barça squad. This is what he said when asked if, now that Lewandowski is injured, he could have been a good replacement in the squad.

"Of course I think I could have been a good replacement for Lewandowski, but when I left I knew there were a lot of people and I wanted to play. I had to make a decision and that's what I did," he began. "Of course you miss things when you are away. Whenever I have a few days off I always go back to my village to be with my family and friends. You always have this nostalgia to go back home".

Jutglà recalled his time in the first team, a Barça team that was rebuilding, but of which he has fond memories. "When I signed for Barça I wasn't even thinking about the first team. My objective was to have a showcase to get me into professional football. I chose Barça because it was a showcase, but when you're inside and you see a hole to get there, if you're ready, you're lucky and all these things come together, you try to take advantage of it and that's what I did. It was my chance."

STRANGE TIMES

Jutgla experienced an atypical season at Barca. "A season of reconstruction where those of us who were there sought the best for the club," he said.

The striker has fond memories of the campaign. "It went very well for me and for the club, but there are circumstances. I wanted to play and it wasn't the right time. I didn't have the space and football is about moments. Just as it was the moment when I left Espanyol to go to Barça".

The striker also explained what life is like in Belgium and in his team, Club Brugge. "Sometimes life is wonderful and has things in store that you can't imagine. Adapting to Belgium has been easy. The first few months, with a lot of games, it went by very quickly and I only thought about football, I didn't have time to think that I was alone. The adaptation was quick and everything went smoothly. I came alone but then my partner came and we are still here together: we are very well, we both have our jobs".

Jutglà assures us that he has no trouble keeping his feet on the ground. "I don't have any whims, I don't like to spend money on expensive clothes. I spend it on trips home. In the end, every player wants to play, but the one who has the most work to do is the coach. Because the player is the one who is angry (when not starting), but the player has to support the team."
