FC Barcelona will wait for Valverde to return before signing a left back
The coach returns to the club next week and they'll hold a meeting to discuss the options available to alternative with Jordi Alba
FC Barcelona are focused on bringing in Neymar and Antoine Griezmann but also on a left-back to offer competition to Jordi Alba. At the moment, there are no other signings expected to arrive this summer. The club has two options for that left-back role, although the final decision will be made next week when Ernesto Valverde rejoins the team.
Valverde will return on Monday to begin preseason preparations and hold a meeting with the sporting department. The main topic of discussion will be the available options at left-back and ultimately Valverde is the one who decides which he prefers.
Barça's idea to a sign a player with European experience but one who won't cost too much either due to the sums involved in deals for Griezmann and Neymar. They want to spend around €15m and one of the names on the list is Ricardo Rodriguez, who will leave Milan following the arrival of Theo Hernandez. Raphael Guerreiro is no longer an option as he's expected to sign for PSG instead.
The other choice is a free transfer: Filipe Luis. The Atletico veteran is out of contract but won't make a decision on his future until after the Copa America has concluded. Re-signing Cucurella could also be on the table but Barça's preferred plan, should they buy him back from Eibar, is to sell him on for a larger profit.
