Josep Maria Bartomeu says he had nothing to do with the deal showing up in El Mundo

Josep Maria Bartomeu has denied any involvement in the leaking of Lionel Messi's contract in a short statement on the show Gol a Gol.

The former Barça president defended himself amid the suggestion he could have had something to do with Messi's €555 million four-year contract showing up in the newspaper El Mundo on Sunday.

"It's completely false [that I was involved in the leak]," Bartomeu said. "This is a very serious issue because it's completely illegal to leak any professional contract to the media.

"It's easy to make accusations, but this is not a joke and it's going to end up in court. Messi deserves everything he earns, be that for professional or commercial reasons. Without the pandemic, Barcelona would be more than capable of paying those numbers."

On the same show, before Bartomeu's comment, they had hinted that Messi and his people thought Bartomeu was responsible for leaking his contract.
