Barça lost Lenglet on Sunday after VAR was used to decide he should be sent off

Ernesto Valverde spoke about a lot of issues during his pre-game press conference for Wednesday's game against Leganes.

One of the subject to come up was VAR, after Clement was sent off when Gil Manzano used the technology to review the defenders clash with Girona's Pere Pons.

Valverde expressed his satisfaction with the implementation of VAR, although he nuanced that there are still doubts about it.

“Look, we all want technology to make football fairer and to help referees,” the coach said. “I’ve been waiting to see how [VAR] stopped the game and what sort of role it would play in terms of the importance [of the incidents].

“I thought it would be more for obvious situations, [like] if the ball is over the line or not, those type of things. There are things I like about it; things I am no so sure about."

His main problem is when it's used and how they determing whether an incident is an "important" moment in the game or not.

“What importance does the play have [for Lenglet’s dismissal]?" he added. "I think VAR is to cover more relevant areas of the game on the pitch: penalties, goals… but I don’t know what the limit is or what the barometer is.”

Barça disagreed with Lenglet's dismissal and launched an appeal but the league's competition committee upheld his one-game ban. He will miss the trip to Leganes.
