Ernesto Valverde was involved in a charity act to benefit the NGO Open Arms which rescues immigrants from the Mediterranean. At the event he also spoke about Barcelona, including Lionel Messi and his physical state.
“Leo is very good. Today he trained perfectly and he’s at the top of his powers for what’s ahead,” said the coach.
Samuel Umtiti was another player he was asked about.
“Umtiti’s situation is different to that of Messi. It’s possible that Sam could accompany us soon, but I wouldn’t know to say whether that will be Saturday, or Tuesday, we have to look at a lot of things. His rhythm with the other players…”
Umtiti is desperately hoping to play his old team Lyon in the Champions League next week.
