The coach said Barcelona needed a defender with experience at this level
Ernesto Valverde gave a long interview to Barca TV in which he explained why Barcelona signed Jeison Murillo, the Colombian centre-back, on loan from Valencia.
For the coach he was a must because the team was in an emergency situation and needed "a centre back with experience". "It was an emergency situation. We were looking for a player with experience, who knew La Liga. A priority," explained Valverde.
Valverde said he is also pleased with the summer signings. Of Arthur and Lenglet he said "they fit in very well and have moulded absolutely with our style."
On Malcom he said: "He has not played as much as the others but we hope that he will help us. He's a winger, a different player, with a big future ahead of him."
On Arturo Vidal: "His signing made up for Paulinho. They are fierce competitors, who you know will perform, with very different characteristics to the others. And what they give, they give the same against Real Madrid or Cultural Leonesa."
