Ernesto Valverde: I don't know what I'll be doing next year
The Barca coach spoke ahead of what may be his final months in charge
Ernesto Valverde has taken charge at Barcelona for a year and a half, a club that “practically doesn’t give you time to stop yourself. That’s why it feels to the coach that he’s on a train without breaks. “How quickly it’s all happened,” he recalled.
The coach spoke in a long interview with Barca TV about his life at the club so far.
Valverde had praise for Lionel Messi. “His responsibility with respect to the team has increased, it’s something you note in each game, in each competition,” said Valverde. “That makes him want to play even if he’s injured or has a problem. When he has to appear, he appears. In big games, he’s there first. It’s hard enough to do that one day, but to do it continuously is… you have to have great mental strength to do that. I haven’t seen a competitor like him.”
Valverde was also asked about his future. The coach’s contract expires at the end of the season.
“Who knows? I’m not thinking about the long or very long term. What I want is to win, I don’t know what I’ll be doing next year.”
