The Catalan club must make decisions on the duo's futures

When we analyse the summer transfer window, there are two special cases related to FC Barcelona. They involve two players that belong to the Catalan club but have never played for them: Emerson, of Real Betis, and Pedri, of Las Palmas.

There is uncertainty regarding Emerson's future. On one hand, everything suggests he will spend another season on loan at Betis before joining Barça in 2021. However, in recent weeks speculation has hinted Barça may want him this summer, which would mean they would have to pay Betis more to bring him in 12 months early.

Reports in Seville say the amount would be around 12 million euros if Barça decide to bring the right-back in early. If they wait until 2021, there would be no more cost as his two years with Betis would be up.

Meanwhile, Pedri, 17, will join the club for preseason. Coach Quique Setien will then decide his future. There are several options. He could stay with the first team or he could go on loan to a La Liga or Segunda side. He could even play for Barça B but only if they are promoted to the second division. In no case will he play with the B team in their current division, the third tier of Spanish football.

The two operations will be studied in the coming weeks and will affect what Barça do elsewhere in the market.
