Jari Litmanen has no doubt about the quality the defender possesses
Ajax legend Jari Litmanen, also a former Barcelona player, has spoken about the future ofMatthijs de Ligt, who is a target for Europe's biggest clubs.
Barça and Juventus are among the sides tracking the Ajax centre-back, who is still just 19 and a full Dutch international.
Ex-Finland international Litmanen has no doubt about the defender's qualities and believes he will break records when he eventually leaves Ajax.
"I don't know if he will leave Juventus but I think when he leaves he will become the most expensive defender in the history of the club," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"At 19, he is already very strong. Do you have any idea what he could become where he is 23?”
De Ligt is Barça's top target for next season. According to Catalunya Radio, sporting director Eric Abidal met with him in Amsterdam last week.
