The midfielder is excited about the club's chances for this coming season

Frenkie de Jong feels strong going into what will be his third season as a Barcelona player. In an exclusive interview with SPORT, which will be available in full on Monday, he says he's convinced that Barça will have a great season and that supporters have every reason to "be optimistic."

The Dutchman, speaking during the club's trip to Germany, where they beat Stuttgart 3-0 on Saturday, says the team are working hard and are prepared for a very demanding season.

He also says he's satisfied with the team's showings in their three friendlies so far, all wins, above all the win against Bundesliga opposition this weekend.

In addition, De Jong also talks about the arrival of international teammate Memphis Depay, coach Ronald Koeman staying on, his life in Barcelona, his hobbies and his future at the club.

"We have improved this season in respect to the previous campaign," De Jong said. "We're growing as a team. The atmosphere is very good and there's a lot of quality.

"The youngsters coming in are very strong and have a lot of talent. I see a strong squad capable of fighting for everything.

"It's always said that things improve in the second year of a coach. In the second year, we all know each other better and the adaption is quicker.

"We're clear that we're going to have opportunities to fight and win important trophies. We're desperate to fight for everything."
