The Brazilian is hoping for success on the European stage this season

Lionel Messi said before the Joan Gamper trophy that Barcelona will give everything they have this season to bring the Champions League back to Camp Nou.

The team have taken on the challenge and they kick off their European campaign against PSV on Tuesday, with Philippe Coutinho not hiding the squad's desire to do well in the competition.

Coutinho spoke to the press before the game and was asked about one statistic: why Barça have only won one of the last five Champions Leagues with Messi in their side.

“It’s difficult [to explain],” he said. “He is the best player in the world, [the best] in the history of the game. It’s difficult to explain it.

In that sense, the Brazilian said that "Messi, like all of us, is really motivated to win big things [this season] and the Champions League is one of them.

“Motivation to win the Champions League is always really high, for every teams that takes part, because of the grandeur of the tournament."
