The Brazilian came on for Joaquin in Betis' loss to Rennes

Emerson de Souza, the 20-year-old right-back who is co-owned by Barcelona, made his Real Betis debut against Rennes on Thursday.

The debut came in difficult circumstances: in the final minutes of a Europa League tie which Quique Setien's side were losing.

Emerson came on in the 89th minute and his entrace coincided with Rennes' final goal, which killed the game at 3-1 (6-4 on aggregate) and was scored by Niang. Emerson came on for Joaquin but was hardly involved.

Setien bet on an attacking team, with three centre-backs and two wing-backs. The presence of Joaquin and Guardado out wide, two of the team's veterans, to line up against quick players like Sarr and Niang has been criticised by some media in Seville.

Emerson came on in a complicated moment after just a few training sessions with his new team. The Brazilian will play for Betis for the rest of the season and the next one.

The Seville-based side have a lot of hope in the right sided player, who's good physically and gets forward. Compared with Danilo, Barça also hope he has a big future.
