The former Italy defender says someone who knows the club would be the best bet

Fabio Cannavaro has spoken to AS and El Pais ahead of Italy's game against Spain on Wednesday in the UEFA Nations League semifinal.

Among other things, the former defender spoke about how football has changed since the revolution of the 'Pep Team' and took a position on whether Pirlo or Xavi will be the next Barcelona coach.

"Without Messi, everything is more difficult," Cannavaro said. "The coach will be fundamental. I have read about Pirlo, but I think they would call Xaxi. They need someone that knows the club's values."

Asked about style, he made an interesting reflection: "It's the evolution of play. The school that I call Guardiola, that was later taken advantage of by the national team, changed the style of football in general, but now the game is much quicker.

"It's easier to find a guy who's 1.90m, strong physically, than a talent like Messi, Xavi, Iniesta. They were unique. Now to build a team it's easier to look for strong, quick players and clubs have had to cross the road to find them. It's another style of football."
