Unease among the Real Madrid hierarchy after back-to-back defeats

Carlo Ancelotti is not doing as well as president Florentino Perez had hoped

Six hundred kilometers away they are not consoled by the fact that FC Barcelona are mired in a crisis that encompasses practically all areas of the club. In the offices at Real Madrid, Barça's fragility does not help to support either the foundations of the new Bernabéu or a sporting project that worries Florentino Perez. Carlo Ancelotti's ears have been ringing for days and with good reason. The president is not satisfied with the image of the team and, although he does not blame the Italian coach for all the ills, he expected more from him.

Sunday's defeat at Espanyol highlighted several weaknesses and a lack of solutions on the bench, something that hugely concerns the Madrid hierarchy. It wasn't the first day that doubts surfaced and it doesn't look like it will be the last. Madrid are trying to forget that they didn't win any trohphies last season, but Perez remains very aware of that fact and insistently remembers it in his most intimate circles. The 'run run' is real and, this week some executives were busy sending positive messages and support to the coach, internally the unease is evident.
