When might Barcelona win La Liga this season after Girona draw?

The Catalans are 13 points clear and strolling towards the title this season

Barcelona are on their way to becoming LaLiga champions. The big question now is: when will they be crowned champions? Surely Barça fans, glancing at the calendar, would choose a very special match for such a special day: the derby at the RCDE Stadium. And the truth is that it is one of the most likely dates...

To do so, it was necessary to increase the gap over Real Madrid to more than 12 points, something that happened with Madrid's defeat to Villarreal... and with the point gained by Barça against Girona. Enough to be champions by the time there are four games to go, as long as the gap is not reduced.

Head to head

If Barça reach matchday 34, the day of the visit to Espanyol, maintaining their current lead, they would be in a position to claim the title that same weekend (13/14 May), regardless of what Real Madrid do that same matchday against Quique Sánchez Flores' Getafe. If they were to lose just one point, that would not be possible.

The reason? Because the head-to-head is in Real Madrid's favour over Barça and this is the first tie-breaker. Los Blancos beat Los Azulgranas 3-1 in the first meeting and Xavi's side won at the Spotify Camp Nou, but only 2-1. This is a factor to take into account when trying to 'guess' when the Blaugrana can be champions of La Liga.

Schedule

Before visiting the RCDE Stadium, Barça will play Getafe (away), Atlético Madrid (home), Rayo Vallecano (away), Betis (home) and Osasuna (home); Real Madrid, meanwhile, will face Cádiz (away), Celta de Vigo (home), Girona (away), Almería (home) and Real Sociedad (away).

If Matchday 34, Barça's visit to Cornellà-El Prat and Real Madrid-Getafe, ends without resolution, all eyes will be on Barça-Real Sociedad on the following matchday, 20-21 May.

Final weeks

At the moment, some might think that the last three matchdays will be completely inconsequential in terms of deciding the championship, but in football, anything can happen.

In this case, it is worth remembering that on matchday 36 Barça will visit Real Valladolid (where they won the mythical 'Urruti, t'estimo' League) and Real Madrid will host Rayo Vallecano.

On the penultimate matchday, Xavi's side face Mallorca at the Spotify Camp Nou and Ancelotti's side travel to the Sánchez Pizjuán to play Sevilla, and on the final matchday, Barça visit a Celta side that always makes life difficult for them at Balaídos and Real Madrid finish at the Santiago Bernabéu against Athletic Club.
