The club will look to sign Lyon's Dutch striker in January

Barcelona tried in the summer but in the end it wasn't possible to sign Memphis Depay. However, they will try again in January with the hope of striking a more favourable deal. The Dutch striker is out of contract with Lyon in the summer.

The club's idea was to move for Depay again in the winter and that position has been strengthened following the injury to Ansu Fati. The managing comittee running the club until a new president is elected would give the green light to a move if the squad can be lightened first.

Barça have a deal in place with Depay and have done since the summer. He will be cheap in January because he would be free next June. The relationship with Lyon is also good. They're looking at ways to structure the deal which would depend on performance-related add-ons and a cut of any future sale if Barça sell Depay in the future.

Barça are currently being run by the president of the managing committee, Carles Tusquets. He had said signings are possible if there are sales first. Barça are working on that.

As well as Depay, they also want to sign Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, although Lyon are proving easier to work with than City.

Depay has been requested by coach Ronald Koeman, who worked with him as Netherlands coach. He wants to add more variety and goals to his front line. The absence of Ansu for several months has accelerated the need for the former PSV and Manchester United striker.
