The injury to Ousmane Dembele has left Barcelona dangerously short in attack. With the transfer window closed, they hope to be able to make an emergency signing, but their options would be limited to players in the Spanish league already or players currently without a club.
Keeping that in mind, Barça have been scouring the market in search of options and there's one player they especially like. Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias. The club are aware how difficult it will be to do a deal now, but they don't want to rule it out from the off.
They have made contact with the former Espanyol forward's entourage to find out about his availability with an eye on then opening negotiations with Betis. So far, it has just been indirect contact to sound what chances they would have of doing a deal.
Borja Iglesias became Espanyol's most expensive sale ever in the summer when Betis paid his €28 million release clause. They made a huge effort to take him to Seville, so are unlikely to make it easy for him to join Barça, who are also missing Luis Suarez for the next few months.
He's not the only player they've looked into. They have also evaluated the possibility of a move for Getafe forward Angel Rodriguez, who would be available at a much cheaper price.
