Barcelona line up Getafe's Angel as replacement for injured Dembele

The 32-year-old forward has a low release clause

Barcelona have decided to sign a replacement for the injured Ousmane Dembele, as long as they are permitted to do so by the RFEF's rules. If the Frenchman is ruled out for more than five months, they will be allowed to make an 'emergency' signing and Getafe striker Angel Rodriguez meets the conditions: he plays in the Spanish league (they can only sign domestically or players without clubs) and his goal scoring form has been incredible.

Aged 32, the attacker from San Cristóbal de La Laguna is one of the key pieced in a Getafe side which, under the leadership of coach Jose Bordalas, is making history. After missing out on the Champions League on the final day of last season, they have continued their form into the current campaign. They sit third in La Liga. Angel has played 27 games this season across La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Europa League. He has scored 13 goals.

The Canary Islander has a contract with the club until 2021 and a €10 million release clause, a fee which Barça would be able to spend. The player would also be keen to joining a European powerhouse, something he may not have expected at this stage of his career. During January, he was also targetted by Espanyol, although the Pericos eventually signed former Real Madrid man Raul de Tomas from Benfica instead.

What stands out most about Angel, though, is his ability to play across the attack. He has featured through the middle and wide and would give Barça options in that sense, not just as a replacement for Dembele, but also in the No.9 position with Luis Suarez also out for several months.
