Barça have activated a clause to bring the right-back back from Seville

Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Emerson Royal from Real Betis. The club have exercised an option they had to re-sign the Brazilian by paying €9 million.

Emerson had appeared to confirm his move to Barça last week while with Brazil, saying: "I have a contract with Barça and I want to fulfil the deal I signed."

After two and a half seasons with Betis, Emerson arrives at Barça with experience of the Spanish league. He made 34 appearances in La Liga as the Seville-based side reached the Europa League this year.

In total, since joining Betis in 2019, he has made 79 appearances, scoring five goals and setting up 10 more from right-back.

Emerson, 22, is currently with the Brazilian national team so his presentation is unlikely to take place until after the Copa America this summer.

It's the third signing Barça have made in as many days after the arrivals ofr Sergio Aguero and Eric Garica.

In addition, it's also worth pointing out that Emerson has a Spanish passport, so will not take up a non-EU place on the Barça squad.
