Ariedo Braida watched the defender against Liverpool, but he recently renewed his contract

Barcelona have doubled down on their efforts to find solutions for the centre of defence and according to 'France Football' are extremely interested in Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, even though the Italian club recently renewed his contract until 2023.

The injuries to Umtiti and Vermaelen left Barça limited in the defensive line, as they only had two center-backs, Gerard Piqué and Clement Lenglet.

Barça have looked at many options and even seriously considered the possibility of hiring a central defender in the winter market in the event that the recovery of Samuel Umtiti, one of the best central defenders in the world, grew complicated.

One of those options is Senegalese international Koulibaly. The Blaugrana have continued to watch the defender in action in several games. Ariedo Braida is who went, according to 'Calciomecato', to see him during Napoli’s game against Liverpool.

Barça would be forced to enter a very expensive auction as De Laurentiis rejected last summer an offer from Chelsea that hovered around 80 million euros.

Barça value the technical quality and physical power of Koulibaly but would not be willing to make such an investment in a player still young (27 years old) but with a lower future potential than Matthijs De Ligt (Ajax), for example, one of the favourites at the club.
