Barcelona trying to look after a De Jong, who doesn't forget

The Dutch midfielder was under a lot of pressure in the summer from the club to leave

Frenkie de Jong complained about Barcelona's treatment of him when he linked up with the Netherlands at the World Cup. Barcelona tried to force him out while denying publically that his transfer was important to fix their accounts.

De Jong wanted to stay at Barcelona, no matter the presure from above for him to rejoin Ten Hag at Manchester United.

He was anlso annoyed by the leaks from his contract. "A newspaper published details from my deal, I did not leak it and only one other side had the contract too, it had to come from the club and you think - that's not necessary. It annoyed me what the club did," said De Jong.

Despite the noise he put in good performances and earned a place in the team near the end of the first half of the season.

Frenkie is now nearly untouchable. There's no intention to sell him bar a surprise script flip. With Busquets impending departure too, De Jong will become more important still, potentially as the main pivot.
