Messi has not played for his country since last year's World Cup

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde is relaxed about Lionel Messi's return to the Argentina squad for friendlies this month against Venezuela and Morocco.

Valverde, speaking to the media before Barça's La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano, was asked how he felt about Messi's return to international football -- he hasn't played for his country since the World Cup last summer.

"It's a decision between Leo (Messi) and the Argentina coach (Lionel Scaloni), it's not to do with us or me," Valverde said.

But the Barça coach insisted he was not concerned about the extra work load affecting Messi's performances at a key stage of the season.

Valverde added: "We knew that Messi would return to his national team sooner or later. It doesn't worry me at all. It's normal.

"This season he's had less of a work load, in part because he was injured but also because he missed Argentina games, but it doesn't worry me at all that he's going back."
