Barça will appeal Leo Messi yellow card for Diego Maradona tribute

Ramos had a booking removed in 2007 for a similar homage to Antonio Puerta

Lionel Messi dedicated Sunday's goal against Osasuna to Diego Maradona by taking off his shirt to reveal a Newell's Old Boy jersey worn by Maradona.

Messi had almost recreated Maradona's Hand of God goal earlier in the game, pulling his hand away from the ball at the last minute as Martin Braithwaite opened the scoring.

In the second half, Messi did finally get his goal, scoring with a strike remarkably similar to one scored by Maradona when playing for Newell's before toasting his compatriot.

However, his celebration earned him a booking and a €3,000 fine -- per RFEF and FIFA rules for celebrating goals, removing shirts and displaying messages.

Barça's legal team will appeal the booking, though, and will use the precedent of Sergio Ramos' 2007 tribute to Antonio Puerta.

The Real Madrid man was booked for paying tribute to his former teammate at Sevilla by removing his shirt to show a Sevilla one, but had it overturned.

Barça are convinced that their case will hold up based on that and that Messi's third booking of the campaign will be rescinded.
