Ajax and Manchester City are the other two sides

Barcelona are one of three clubs left in Europe that can still win the treble: league, cup and Champions League. The Catalans last won it in 2015.

Manchester City and Ajax are the other two clubs still in with a chance to become part of a select group of football history. Barça are already part of that group having won two trebles in the last decade.

Ernesto Valverde's side are 11 points clear in La Liga this season, into the Copa del Rey final against Valencia and, after Wednesday's first leg, have a 1-0 lead over Manchester United in the Champions League quarterfinal.

According to UEFA, Europe's treble winners are:

  • 1966/67: Celtic
  • 1971/72: Ajax
  • 1987/88: PSV Eindhoven
  • 1998/99: Manchester United
  • 2008/09: Barcelona
  • 2009/10: Inter Milan
  • 2012/13: Bayern Munich
  • 2014/15: Barcelona

Now, three more teams are trying to add their name to that list -- Barça for a record third team.

This is how things lie:

Barcelona:

  • Champions League: Quarterfinal (0-1 win against Manchester United in first leg, second leg at Camp Nou on April 16).
  • Liga: 1st, 11 points clear of Atlético Madrid.
  • Copa: Final vs. Valencia  on May 25.

Manchester City

  • Champions League: Quarterfinal (1-0 defeat against Tottenham in first leg, second leg at home on April 17).
  • League: 2nd, two points behind Liverpool with a game in hand.
  • FA Cup: Final vs. Watford (Wembley).
  • League Cup: Winners.

Ajax Amsterdam

  • Champions League: Quarterfinal (1-1 draw against Juventus, second leg in Turin on April 16).
  • League: 1st, level on points with PSV Eindhoven.
  • Cup: Final vs. Willem on May 5.
